Sabbath Sermon: "Frequently Asked Questions about the 'Thomas Immortality Project' ”

Notes to readers: The following is a Sabbath Sermon composed under the inspiration of the Spirit of Truth on February 15, 2016. It is to be meditated upon on God’s Holy Day, before sunset Friday to after Sundown Saturday. All citations are from The Gospel of Thomas: The Hidden Sayings of Jesus by Marvin Meyer.

1. What’s the big deal about The Gospel of Thomas?

The text’s 114 sayings is the only text in existence of Jesus’ original sayings.

2. What about the Gospels?

They are a collection of invented stories combined with true accounts which uses a sayings book like Thomas called “Q.” The church fathers destroyed all the original documents, including Thomas which was rediscovered in 1945.

3. What is the central message in Thomas?

Physical Immortality is the union with God and is available as the immortal words of Jesus are read and meditated upon.

4. What are some key teachings of Jesus in Thomas ?

  1. Salvation Is Now! There is no afterlife—either we become immortal now or it’s never going to happen…

  1. The Shift Into Immortality Is Being Connected To God Alone!  In the present stage, all humans are connected to each other. Through this connection people are told to love each other. This is a teaching of darkness; humans are not to love one another, but are to be connected to God alone at the level of Truth Consciousness.

5. What is Truth Consciousness?

It is a level of being in which there are deeper openings through the Spirit of Truth to God’s presence: Joy, praise, healing and insights.

6.How might I activate Truth Consciousness?

The seeking is the finding. When we seek God’s Truth we change through the process of seeking. Thomas assures us this process of seeking and finding leads to salvation: “Let one who seeks not stop seeking until one finds. When one finds, one is troubled. When one is troubled, one will marvel and will rule over all” (Gospel of Thomas, sayings 2).

7. Is it advisable for people to go to church?

Absolutely Not! The churches accept documents, the Canon Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—which are fraudulent. Because the Christian Churches are based on these false documents, their teachings are also false.

8. Does Thomas teach a literal resurrection?

Yes. The Jesus movement was to be led by Jesus’ brother, James, after Jesus’ Resurrection (Gospel of Thomas, sayings 12). Jesus was crucified and rose from the dead on the third day as Paul accurately records in I Corinthians 15. The risen Jesus was seen by about 500 people.

9. How should we study Thomas?

Because Thomas is the only text which contains Jesus’ original words, we should prayerfully invite the Spirit of Truth to guide us. As one reads, there are many levels of understanding: Literal, Spiritual, and Union of Word and Spirit. The goal is Physical Immortality—physical and spiritual union with God—so that we can return to our original state before time began.
